Our top Rental home booking tips:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in New Bern. To get the best rental for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the perfect rental home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Spacious Family Home with Outdoor Space. One mile to downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a specific New Bern attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
