Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Start by having your group decide on the best dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Newly Renovated, Waterfront, Poolside, Ground-Floor, King Bed & WiFi has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
