Rental booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the perfect rental home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Atlantic Beach Classic Family Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
