Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to choose and book a perfectrental home:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful private beach house with access to sound has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
