Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Planning and picking a perfectrental:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. South ACK-Lil bit of Nantucket in Beaufort NC! Book now for summer! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of concerns.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
