Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group choose trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 3 Minute walk to the Ocean! has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a particular New Bern beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
