Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:
When to visit Atlantic Beach & When to reserve a New Bern rental home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to pick the perfect rental home:
- Select dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Newly renovated beach home with decks, ocean views, and outdoor shower has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or applied to your invoice.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
