Tips to get the very best New Bern vacation rental experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental home in the New Bern area:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Dolphin's Run, Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • If there's a specific New Bern beach you crave, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
