Getting the best value:

  • Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and choose the perfectvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group decide on a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lovely 1 BR with King bed Apt 4 has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
