Tips and Tricks to get the perfect New Bern rental home experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property managers often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply New Bern area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown home 1 block from waterfront with patio, front porches, streaming has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
