New Bern rental property booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a budget:

  • In the New Bern area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summertime is high season in Atlantic Beach. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many property management companies supply New Bern area travel guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Canal-Front Cottage with Deepwater Boat Slip, Waterfront Deck & W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
