Tricks and tips for getting the best Emerald Isle vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Book your rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Tradewinds East Oceanviews! 4bd 3bath, 3rd row, 60 sec to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
