About this Property

  • Sleeps 4
  • 2 Bedrooms
  • 1 Bathrooms
  • Cabin
  • Approximately 250 square feet

Only six mins. to historic downtown New Bern. The Sanderling is a tiny cabin ideal for a couple or a family of 3 or 4. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A TINY CABIN WITH SLEEPING LOFTS. YOU MUST CLIMB A LADDER TO GET IN THE LOFTS. THIS CABIN SHARES AN ONSITE BATHHOUSE WITH ONE OTHER CABIN. The cabin is located on a pine grove lot with access to a SHARED private dock on deep water Brices Creek. Brices Creek flows into the Trent and Neuse Rivers and then out to the Atlantic Ocean. You are encouraged to use one of our kayaks to appreciate the water. Other activities include swimming, fishing, crabbing & boating. Don't miss a chance to prepare a s'more over our sizable fire pit.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE KING BED AND TWIN BED ARE IN LOFTS THAT REQUIRE RENTERS TO CLIMB LADDERS TO ACCESS THESE BEDS. THE LADDERS MAY BE DIFFICULT TO NEGOTIATE FOR OLDER ADULTS, PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AND SMALL CHILDREN. Also, there are a few other rental units close by that may wish to use the fire pit and SHARED private dock. Please be respectful of other renters so everybody may savor their stay. Overall I believe you will find the property to be very peaceful. THE SANDERLING DOES NOT HAVE IT'S OWN PRIVATE BATHROOM. YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A VERY NICE SHARED BATHHOUSE THAT HAS A FULL SIZE REFRIGERATOR, FULL SIZE WASHER AND DRYER, A SINK, A FULL SIZE TOILET AND A FULL SIZE SHOWER. You also have use of a SHARED dock.

Strategies to get the very best vacation home experience:

When to visit & When to book:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your New Bern vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the best vacation home in New Bern:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Sanderling Tiny Cabin Water Access/Private Shared dock has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental

Tips for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
