Strategies to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Emerald Isle. To find the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Finding the perfect rental in the New Bern area:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Ocean View / Sound View has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular New Bern destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
