Our top Rental booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for local tours and attractions.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Start by having your group choose dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. OCEANFRONT ---Great Summer Rates--- Pet Friendly has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

More considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
