About this Property

We optimized the home for a low-anxiety family or extended family holiday, with plenty of home preparing. We want your family to have a great holiday on Emerald Isle and come back next year.

Before you rent please understand that this is not a hotel room, this is a duplex designed for a family beach holiday. Our duplex home isn't on the beach but per the view, you can see we are still rather exposed to wind, rain, and sand. We expect and want visitors who actively use the kitchen, who go back and forth to the beach, and understand that there will be a neighboring visiting family on the other side. We do our most superb, but we don't claim that the sliders are crystal clear, the home is polished like a hotel room, or kitchen items look brand new.

For any holiday, expectations are key to an enchanting stay. We include an abundance of information and photos so your expectations can match your experience. We appreciate our home and want you to thoroughly savor it. We will gladly answer any questions before you rent.

If you have more than 4 adults or they are unrelated, please explain why in your renting request.

Our calming beach home is 100 yards away from access to a peaceful beach. Remodeled 4 bed/3 baths in ideal shape. Unwind and appreciate full decks on both floors with sea sounds and vistas. Walkable grocery, eateries, shopping & mini-golf. We want to know if something interferes with your appreciating your stay. House, refrigerator, and cabinet is supplied with preparing essentials, and linens are PROVIDED!!

Absolutely No Smoking or dogs and cats. We request that visitors do not smoke near the home including the decks because some smoke smell inevitably finds its way into the home and we pride ourselves on including a "smoke-complimentary" experience as much as possible. If you smoke outdoor please try not to disturb renters on the other side of the duplex.

Check-in at 4 pm or after and check-out at 10 am on departure day.
The middle floor has a generous open kitchen and dining area with seating for eight. Two sliding doors to access the porch with table and chairs. One bedroom with 2 twins, and a shared downstairs bathroom. The living area has High-speed internet (30 Down/5 up) and all TVs have Roku attached.

The top floor has 2 queen bedrooms with access to the outdoor space and 1 shared bathroom. The master bedroom has a king bed with a private bath.

Covered parking for 2 cars and parking pad, plus a sizable driveway with substantial room for cars. This is the blue door side of the duplex.

Washer/dryer and propane grille available.

There is a brief walk to the uncrowded Emerald Isle beach. This little group of homes has its own public entrance to the beach with NO car parking. Folks cannot park on our road so the only people that use this access are on this street or close by. The home is at the end of a peaceful cul-de-sac. There is essentially no traffic on our street or in front of the home. Most of the close by homes are units but we haven't noticed a lot of noise or seen any big events. Our co-owner of the duplex also has a no smoking, no family dogs and cats policy.

Often there is a magnificent tidal pool during low tide. As with any beach (especially one with sandbars and without lifeguards), know what to do in terms of rip tides. On Emerald Isle, we don't get the monster waves you see on the outer banks, but everybody should know about rip tides. We have life jackets for anyone who isn't a great swimmer.

Emerald Isle is bicycle-friendly with bicycle paths along the major roads and straighforward bicycle rental if you cannot bring your own. Bicycle or walk to the Emerald Plantation Shopping or Food Lion each morning to pick up a coffee or a food item. It's less than a mile away. You can walk conveniently to the pier via the beach (about a mile away). Emerald Isle Woods Park is also about a mile away and has a pretty view of the sound. Walking distance to the water park, cinema, shopping, mini-golf, and eateries. Canoe units and surf shop are also walking distance.

Beach:
Access: On your right, there is public beach access. In the morning and evening, the beach isn't that busy. To get to the beach, turn right out of the home and walk to the end of the street.
Fishing: The Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is a 1.6-mile drive or a 1-mile walk on the beach to the east. Surf fishing is acclaimed especially when the beaches are peaceful.
Equipment: The home has beach chairs and the usual collection of "floaty things" as the children call them. There are two beach carts.

Check-in/check-out: Standard Check-In time is 4 pm and check-out time is 10 am. These hours may be flexible depending on availability. If the home is cleaned and no one is in the home, we'll tell you and you can potentially check-in as early as you like on that day.

Towels: Visitors should bring their own bath and beach towels. There isn't time to turn around the home for the next guest and tidy towels.

Parking: There is covered space for two cars (one behind the other). There is also a parking pad to the right where you can put another car.

Food in the House: We've tried to stock the kitchen with necessary silverware and cookware. If anything is missing, please tell us so we can address the problem. You will also find standard spices, common items (oil), and some standard refrigerator stuff. Thus you will find some items in the refrigerator. These items are left because when we have rented, we have been frustrated that preparing is hard without them and we end up doing additional runs to the grocery store. Please feel complimentary to use anything you find. If you have food you don't want to bring home and won't spoil in the next few weeks, feel complimentary to leave it.

Next Door: Keep in mind that we cannot control the behavior of visitors who rent the other half of the duplex - and they may smoke on their decks. Please tell us if their behavior (smoking or otherwise) interferes with your savoring your stay. Please do not park on their side (the West side) of the building

Food/Grocery:
Food Lion in the close by (0.6 miles, an 11-min. walk) Emerald Plantation Shopping Center. The prices are reasonable. Note that they are swamped on Saturday when new people arrive. And all those folks can quickly empty the new veggies and fruit. To get to Emerald Plantation Shopping, drive out to the main road, turn right and it is about half a mile down on the left.
Lowes Foods (3.2 miles, 11 min drive) - A trip across the bridge; usually not necessary. They will shop for you and do delivery, however.
Piggly Wiggly (7 miles and 12 mins. away from the home): A convenient stop on the way in if you are coming in from Jacksonville. If you are coming in on a Saturday or Sunday it'll be much less busy.

Shopping:
There is plenty of convenient Shopping on Emerald Isle including in the close by (0.6 miles, an 11-min. walk) Emerald Plantation Shopping Center.

How to Save Money on Your Rental

  • Many management companies and vacation rental properties supply New Bern area travel discount books which feature money-saving offers, either offered individually by vendors, or through a partnership between the property manager and the local business itself. These guides provide a great start to your vacation rental search.
  • Are you willing to change your vacation week? Off-season rates are usually a fraction of top pricing.
  • A number of vacation rental companies and owners offer special discounts for active duty and veteran men and women of the US Military, or returning vacation goers of the same property. Be sure to confirm with property management company to see if your visiting gang qualifies for a discounted rate.
  • Some rentals are basically designed to serve specific visitors, whether it's downtown homes with pier passes, city-center homes with close access to restaurants or waterfront homes that have their own windsurfing launching areas. You should prioritize your proximity to the family activities and sight-seeing opportunities you are most looking forward to.
  • Management companies and individual rental home owners commonly offer clients an opportunity to purchase trip insurance coverage. Trip insurance, which usually add somewhere between 1% - 5% of the base rental price, provides travellers reimbursement of their trip expenses for any missed as a result of personal medical related emergencies or weather, in addition to ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unforeseen hotel room stay or extra fuel. Trip insurance can be a bank account-saver if the unforseen happens .

General Rental property Information

First-timers are often times surprised at the number and wide range of short-term rentals available in the New Bern area. Vacation home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of worldwide search sites like Homeaway and VRBO.

Nearly all vacation homes in New Bern are privately operated and many are represented by experienced local rental management companies. Property management companies are liked by rental owners mainly because they coordinate the internet marketing and operations..

Below are great tips and suggestions to help you understand the vacation rental search and booking process.

How to find and reserve the best rental property:

Before you start to book "Ocean View, EASY beach access, close to shopping!", review our brief list of issues to consider.

Begin Your Search Early

New Bern rental homes book several months (and up to a year) in advance. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is highly recommended, when possible. A lot of groups choose to start their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year gatherings.

Choose a Community and Time

Oftentimes, the hardest part of preparing for your vacation is choosing where to search, and when. When the big decisions are hammered out, everything else will be simpler.

Choose a Size

Establish who is attending the vacation, and how many/what type of bedroom configuration you should have. Bear in mind that a lot of properties advertise maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in the home's living room. It is important to determine what is acceptable for your group. Specific descriptions of bedrooms and beds are typically available online. If not, communicate with the property owner before you book.

Establish Your Budget

Will the preferred rental suit your budget during that choice Summer week? If several groups or loved ones are sharing the cost, always make sure that each person knows their responsibilities and has agreed to a maximum they are prepared to contribute. Generally, just one member of the group will be responsible for making the whole reservation and recovering each person's contribution.

Let's Talk Amenities

What home features is your family trying to find? Do you want a rental property with open-air dining area? Do you want to be away from it all, or near civilization? Does the property have bicycles and beach toys for use during your stay? Make a list of priority features to help filter your search.

Accessability

Grandma and Grandpa will thank you for not renting a stairs-only property on the 3rd floor. If wheel chair accessibility, elevators, pool lifts or other specialized devices are needed, include that into your search. The majority of property listings will include a list of amenities.

Fido Approved

Are you or other members of the gang visiting with a pet? Animal policies are different at each property. Read descriptions carefully. Make sure that you study descriptions and contracts carefully. Fees may apply when pets are added. Ask questions *before* you reserve!

The best places to Search

Many websites exist to match clients with rental home owners.. Besides Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we suggest searching Google for "New Bern local rental properties" for local rental home management companies. Besides offering exceptional properties, local agencies provide top-notch service..

Negotiate

Re-read the description to make certain that the vacation home has everything required. If it is lacking, the rental management company may know of similar properties that better fit your style and budget..

While not true for all rental properties, many rental owners and property managers will make a deal on rates. If they are unwilling to budge on a highly-desirable week, try asking for an extra night. Your best possibility of a reduced rate will be switching to an off-season week.

Study The Contract

Read the full contract and be sure you understand who is responsible for:

  • Utilities
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Long Distance Calls
  • Pool and hot tub heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Daily Cleaning (If Available)
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance policies
  • Check in & Check Out Key Exchange
  • Parking Fees

Get a total that incorporates state taxes, animal and other extra fees.

Cancellations Happen

Make sure you are familiar with the cancellation policy before reserving. Many rental contracts include an option for trip insurance. Trip insurance safeguards the renter against emergency situations and weather events, It gives reassurance should disaster strike.

Complete the Reservation

When everything looks right, it's finally time for you to sign on the dotted line. Bear in mind that most rental agreements require a substantial rental deposit and/or security deposit to protect the home owner.

Where to Get Assistance

Make sure to get the property manager's contact phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the contact's information in your smartphone and wallet.

Congratulations! All that is left is enjoying your visit!

During your Stay

  • Take pictures on your arrival. Record the condition of the rental unit right away. If you discover damages, or if repairs are required call the home manager without delay.
  • You may need instructions for a gas fireplace, Television set or spa. Contact your property manager. They are there to help. A phone call can save hours of difficulty.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Residents will be as friendly to you as you are respectful of them. Remember the golden rule and treat others the same way you'd like to be treated by visitors next to your residence.
  • Ask a local. Local people are a terrific source of suggestions.
  • Enjoy your stay! Remember to protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation rental secured when you are away, just like you would at home.

When its Time to Leave

  • Double-check every space of the rental home to ensure you've packed all possessions.
  • Make sure to walk through the rental home one last time and check for property damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible).. If the property owner is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How would you feel about your choice? Many rental management company sites request feedback after your stay . Property owners and rental managers will thank you for glowing ratings. If something went wrong, we recommend being kind but honest regarding your rental experience. Top owners and managers will work hard to solve the issue.

Use Your Experience

Did everyone have a good time? If everything was amazing, next year's vacation planning will be quick. Otherwise, you have acquired useful experience that can help with the next search.
