Tips for getting the best New Bern vacation home experience:

When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Summer is high season in the New Bern area. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing the right New Bern vacation home:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Dune Castle East: Family Friendly Oceanfront Beach Duplex With Adjoining Door has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available online. If not, email the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is best for your family.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a certain New Bern attraction you love, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
