Wallet-Friendly Tips

  • Search for the official tourism bureau where you want to travel. Many official tourism bureaus will offer you printed tourism guides with special packages for vacation rentals, restaurants and tours. These guides may provide a good start to your rental home search.
  • Flexible about when you can vacation? Off-peak times provide substantive bargains.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the U.S. Military may be able to get price reductions. Make sure to ask property management company to see if your visiting group is eligible for a reduced price.
  • Some rental properties are essentially catered to specific clients, whether it is downtown units with pier passes, city-center homes with nearby access to restaurants or waterfront homes that have their own windsurfing launching areas. You'll receive the most value from a rental that most thoroughly suits your ideal trip setting, regardless if it costs a little more.
  • Consider purchasing trip insurance together with your lease agreement. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base term rate, offers guests reimbursement of their trip costs for any days missed resulting from personal health related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing extra hurricane evacuation costs or expenses, such as an unplanned hotel room stay or extra gasoline. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforseen happens (heaven forbid!).

General Rental Home Advice

You may be pleasantly surprised to learn how many vacation rentals are available at your destination. Rental home accommodations have gained in popularity with the rise of global search sites like Tripadvisor and VRBO.

Virtually all rentals in New Bern are privately operated and many are represented by experienced local property management companies. Property management companies are well-liked by owners mainly because they manage the online marketing and operations..

Here are some tips and suggestions to help you understand the vacation home search and reservation process.

Finding and reserving the perfect rental property:

Do you believe "Dock Holiday! with Boat Dock " is the best rental property for your upcoming visit? Read this checklist to ensure it fits your needs.

Search Early and Often

Like many desirable vacation spots, In New Bern the best rental homes are booked very early. To ensure the most desirable choice of properties, we advise searching and reserving your New Bern vacation home 6-Twelve months in advance, whenever possible. Many families prefer to begin their search over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year holiday gatherings.

Choose a Town and Time

Sometimes, the hardest portion of preparing for your vacation is deciding where to go, and when. After the big decisions are tackled, everything else becomes easier.

Choosing an Appropriately-Sized Vacation rental

How many relatives are joining your vacation? Be mindful that a lot of vacation rentals advertise maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in the home's living room. It is important to figure out what is acceptable for your company. Most vacation home listings will describe each of the unit's specific bedrooms and beds.

What Exactly Are You Willing to Spend?

Many rental properties are advertised with a price range. Determine the cost for your preferred stay. It could be at the high end of the range. Ensure that you get cost-sharing commitments from family and friends before booking a pricey rental. A single individual in your family must be responsible for gathering contributions and acknowledging responsibility for the entire rental cost at time of booking.

Compose a list of "Wishes" and "Necessities"

What home features is the family trying to find? Is a swimming pool reallynecessary? Are you looking for a rental property with outdoor kitchen? Will the unit need to be oceanfront, the downtown area, or close to shopping? Will the property have bikes and beach toys available for use during your stay? Gather a list of prioritized "needs and desires" from your group to help filter your search to the perfect property.

Special Criteria

Frequently the senior generation has trouble with stairways. If wheel chair access, elevators, pool lifts or other special devices are needed, include that into your search. Nearly all rental home listings include a list of amenities.

Have You Considered 4-Legged Family Members?

Make sure you include your best friend! Animals are welcome at a number of rental properties, but policies can vary. Type of pet, size and breeds can be limited. You'll want to study descriptions and contracts carefully. Service fees may apply when animals are included. Ask questions *prior to* you reserve!

Searching the Internet

Many websites exist to match clients with rental home owners.. In addition to Homeaway, VRBO and Tripadvisor, we advise searching Google for "New Bern local vacation homes" for local vacation rental management companies. Local vacation home management companies take pride in a superior vacation experience.

Negotiate the Price

When you've identified your dream rental, double check to make sure your vacation dates are available.

While not true for all rental homes, many property owners and property managers will make a deal on rates. If the price isn't negotiable, the number of nights might be. Your easiest possibility of a reduced rate is switching to an off-season week.

Study The Contract

You will have to know which services are included:

  • Utility bills
  • Internet Connectivity
  • Telephone service
  • Pool and hot tub heating
  • Pay Per View Movies
  • Housekeeping
  • Trash collection
  • Maintenance (get a phone number)
  • Key exchange
  • Parking Space

In addition to the regular rate, guests will need to pay local taxes when renting "Dock Holiday! with Boat Dock ", as well as various other fees which might be mandatory based upon their circumstances, including a pet charge, early check-in or late check-out fee, or a pool heater fee for private pool usage during the fall or spring months.

If you wish to Cancel

Be sure you understand the cancellation policy before booking. Rental home management companies and individual home owners typically offer their guests the option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance shields the renter against emergencies and weather events, It offers reassurance should disaster strike.

Reserve It

As soon as you think you've found "the one", start the booking process. Bear in mind that most rental contracts require a substantial rental deposit and/or security deposit to safeguard the property owner.

Know Who to Call

Put the property manager's contact information into your phone and wallet for quick access to answers during your trip.

Good job on reserving your rental! You're on the right path to a fantastic vacation!

During your Stay

  • Take pictures at your arrival. Record the condition of the rental property right away. Contact the rental manager right away to report your observations.
  • You could need instructions for a gas fireplace, Television set or spa. Get in touch with your property manager. They are there to assist. A phone call can save several hours of hassle.
  • Please be considerate of the community. Natives should be as friendly to you as you are respectful of them. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay a lot more enjoyable.
  • Ask a local. Residents can frequently point you in the right direction.
  • Make sure that you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the vacation rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.

At the end of your stay

  • Double-check every room of the rental to ensure you've packed all possessions.
  • Make a point to walk through the rental home one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever feasible (often this isn't possible).. If the property owner is not available, make sure to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • How was your vacation? Just about all rental management companies and vacation rental websites allow renters to offer reviews. If your vacation rental and/or property manager was outstanding, they will appreciate your positive reviews. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a acceptable manner, or when the property was not as described, you may want to make it a point as part of your feedback.

Use Your Experience

Hold a meeting with your family. Did they love their vacation? If everything was outstanding, next year's trip planning will be painless. Otherwise, you've acquired useful rental search experience that can help with another search.
