Strategies for getting the perfect New Bern vacation rental experience:

When to book a New Bern rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Atlantic Beach. Reserve your vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply New Bern area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find New Bern visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the right New Bern rental home:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Near Oceanfront Condo at Tar Landing Villas - Adjacent to Ft Macon State Park has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before booking the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

Know before you go:

  • Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
