How to get the best New Bern vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the New Bern area. Book your New Bern rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Planning and choosing your New Bern vacation home:

  • Select a group leader, select your dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Sound Side Studio Apartment with Boat Slip! (Bridgeview on Broad) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or costs may be applied to your contract.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
