Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in the New Bern area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local New Bern area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting and booking the best New Bern rental:
- Choose your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 6 miles from downtown has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain New Bern attraction you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
