Finding the best vacation property experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- In the New Bern area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Summer months are high season in the New Bern area. To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular New Bern attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Emersands, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property owner before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is best for your family.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual New Bern destination you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
