Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation home experience:

When to book a New Bern rental & When to go:

  • The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Reserve your rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select vacation week and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Beach Escape, Almost Oceanfront House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
  • If there's a certain New Bern destination you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
