Tricks and tips to get the perfect New Bern rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your New Bern rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental in the New Bern area:

  • Select vacation week and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Family-Friendly! Golf Cart, Large Screened Porch, King Beds, Minutes From Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

Tips to have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
