How to book the best New Bern vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • In the New Bern area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your family's New Bern vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a New Bern vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local New Bern area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Grace Appearing, Oceanside House in Emerald Isle, NC! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Call the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
